400 million subscribers’s not enough!

China Mobile
Originally uploaded by crickee.
Hmm not (yet) speaking about the number of Crickee subscribers, but rather about the world's largest mobile operator, China Mobile. Not satisfied with its over 400 mobile subscribers, it is about to close the acquisition of Millicom, a Nasdaq-listed telecom group which operates in emerging and fast growing markets from Africa to South America.

British Telecom is turning up the heat on mobile, high speed, low cost (Free?) data access for mobile users. It has recently signed deals with 12 cities to blanket them with wifi (ref the San Francisco/Google project). On the menu are numerous Internet-enabled services, including local information (parking, tourist info, etc)... And landline rates for mobile calls are in the pipeline... Meanwhile Crickee will be glad to make your texting free all around!

Helio the new US MVNO

MVNOs have become popular in the past year, as big brands develop new mobile services to target niche markets that the larger mobile phone operators aren't reaching. For instance, Disney Mobile is going after families and Virgin Mobile is catering to teenage thumboarders.

Helio uses the wireless infrastructure of Sprint Nextel to deliver its service specially targeted at the young and trendy. A service which is voluntarily focusing on providing easy access to Internet mobile phone content, such as games music and videos.

Sky Dalton CEO of Helio explains "It's a service that has been custom-built for the lifestyle of young people who have their mobile device at the center of their universe."

Sounds to me like a Crickee friendly MVNO.

A major European ISP link its network to FON’s 32 000 hotspots

FON with +32 000 hotspots
Originally uploaded by crickee.
FON, a venture which allows users to get free wifi access with all the FON-enabled wifi spots in exchange for yourself opening up your wifi access, has signed with France-based Neuf Cegetel. What does this mean concretely for you?? If you sign up with Neuf Cegetel for a regular internet broadband connection, it'll mean much more: it'll mean unlimited phone calls from your wifi network on your hybrid wifi/gsm phone AND the same from all Neuf Cegetel subscribers AND from all FON-enabled wifi spots (32000). Not bad... and of course, crickee texting in all those places absolutely free and fast.

Cool.

Any Free phone?

Alright, Free means freedom or free stuff, but in France it means also a bold, innovative broadband provider... Which is now jumping into the Wifi and hybrid mobile phones, for the enjoyment of its customers. It should arrive in the coming weeks, and if anyone has a hold on those new phones, we'd be glad at Crickee to get to see and test the thing... For unlimited texting, of course!
